The Yemeni News Agency reported on Sunday that the Presidential Command Council expressed its aspiration to impose more sanctions on the Houthis as the best peaceful option to bring peace and stability in the region.
The agency added that the Presidential Command Council stressed the importance of strengthening the capabilities of the government and the Coast Guard in the wake of the serious threats by the Houthis to the freedom of global trade.
The Council warned against the Houthis exploiting the Palestinian issue in order to "undermine all efforts aimed at bringing peace and stability and ending the suffering of the Yemeni people," according to what the agency reported.
She continued, "The Council commends the unity of the international community regarding the Yemeni file and its unified position against serious threats to the freedom of global trade."
The United States and Britain have been launching strikes on Houthi sites for several days with the aim of disrupting and weakening the group's ability to threaten navigation in the Red Sea and undermine global trade.
The Houthis claim that they are targeting ships owned or operated by Israeli companies or transporting goods to and from Israel, in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been exposed to an Israeli war since last October.
