The head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, confirmed today, Monday, that the international community’s support for the Yemeni government is the surest way to protect international waters.
This came during Al-Alimi’s reception with the ambassadors of New Zealand, Barney Reilly, and Mark Donovan, Australia, to discuss national and regional developments, according to what was reported by the government agency Saba.
The meeting touched on bilateral Yemeni relations with the two friendly countries, and the promising prospects for expanding them and pushing them to broader horizons in various fields.
The meeting also discussed the latest developments in the Yemeni situation, the path of regional and international efforts to revive the political process, and the international pressure required to enhance the chances of peace in light of the Houthi militias’ intransigence and their continued preference for the interests of their leaders and supporters over the interests of the Yemeni people.
In this context, Al-Alimi stressed the commitment of the Council and the government to a comprehensive and just peace approach based on the terms of reference agreed upon locally, regionally and internationally, in particular Resolution 2216, and considering peace and the security of international navigation to be a major interest for the Yemeni people.
He reiterated the priority of supporting the Yemeni government to restore state institutions and strengthen its capabilities to impose security and stability on the entire national territory, as it is the surest way to secure territorial waters and international shipping lines and push the Houthi militias to seriously engage with the peace efforts led by the United Nations based on the results of the efforts. Praise be to the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
