The head and members of the National Committee to Investigate Allegations of Human Rights Violations discussed, today, Sunday, with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Ms. Catherine Corm Kammoun, human rights developments in the country and opportunities for accountability and justice for victims.
The Ambassador of the Republic of France to Yemen explained the importance of the work of the National Committee as a mechanism that provides redress for victims and achieving justice for everyone who has been subjected to a violation, and the necessity of continuing its work, reaching the rest of the governorates, and facilitating the work of its field teams in remote areas.
For his part, the Chairman of the Committee, Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Muflihi, confirmed the intensification of the Committee’s efforts during the current period to reach the victims and try to ensure that no one from any governorate is excluded from documenting and investigating the violation that occurred in order to benefit from the accountability investigation process and its use in transitional justice mechanisms, in accordance with investigation standards. applicable in international committees.
The members of the committee, Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali and Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari, also reviewed the work mechanisms that were followed during the investigation process, the nature of the relationship with civil society based on cooperation in the field of information and access to victims, the most important challenges facing access to remote areas, and the standards of the permanent comprehensive peace agreement that seeks To the Yemenis, which does not renounce the rights of the victims and their early inclusion in any peace agreement.
