The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, continues his meetings with Yemeni leaders, in an effort to resume a political process.
Today, Sunday, Grundberg met with a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Tariq Saleh, at his residence in the city of Mokha (western Yemen).
The office of the UN envoy stressed “the necessity of maintaining calm on the front lines in Yemen, and the necessity of creating favorable conditions to reach a ceasefire throughout the country, in addition to implementing economic measures and resuming a political process under the auspices of the United Nations,” according to a statement by his office.
The UN envoy met, on Saturday in Aden, with the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and they discussed ways to calm tensions, avoid a return to a new cycle of violence in Yemen, and continue progress towards a ceasefire that covers the entire country, in addition to implementing economic measures. And resuming a political process under the auspices of the United Nations.
In addition, the recognized Yemeni government said that water and food security threaten 17.6 million Yemenis due to conflict, climate change, resource depletion, and limited access to technology.
The Minister of Water and Environment, Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the government and Yemen’s international and regional partners in the field of sustainable development to bridge this gap.
