The US Treasury Department announced in a statement on its website that the sanctions imposed by the United States on the Houthis due to their connection to attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea entered into force, today, Friday.
The US government said last month that it would re-list the Houthis on the list of terrorist groups in an effort to stop attacks on international shipping traffic, according to Reuters.
British cargo ship hit
It is noteworthy that earlier today, US Central Command announced that a British cargo ship flying the Barbados flag was slightly damaged in the Gulf of Aden as a result of being targeted by a missile launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.
Central Command said in a statement that there were no casualties among the ship's personnel and that the damage was very minor, adding that the ship continued its voyage.
American strikes
In addition, it confirmed that its forces carried out two strikes in self-defense, yesterday evening, Thursday, targeting 3 anti-ship cruise missiles that were ready to be launched from areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen.
While the Houthi media reported that the American-British aircraft launched a raid on the Al-Jah area in the Bayt Al-Faqih District, and two raids on the Al-Jabanah area in Yemen.
The Houthis announced yesterday that they targeted a British ship, while sailing in the Gulf of Aden, with naval missiles.
