As Houthi attacks continue against commercial ships in the Red Sea, the German army account reported, today, Wednesday, on the “X” platform that two drones that approached the frigate “Hessen” were shot down in the Red Sea, without any injuries or damage recorded.
p>Before that, the German embassy in the United States said that the German frigate “Hessen” thwarted a drone attack for the first time since it joined the naval operation “Aspids” launched by the European Union in the Red Sea.
Earlier this month, the Union launched Operation Aspids to help protect international navigation in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks in Yemen.
It is noteworthy that the launch of the European mission came two months after Washington established a maritime alliance, to protect navigation in the strategic region through which 12% of global trade passes.
The "Guardian of Prosperity" coalition led by the United States and Britain had attacked Houthi positions in areas under their control in Yemen, with the aim of limiting the ability of the Iranian-backed Houthis to attack ships.
The US Department of Defense announced yesterday evening that five drones had been shot down. The Central Command explained in a statement that the marches were launched from areas under the control of the Houthis inside Yemen, and they were targeted by an American fighter and an international coalition ship.
For its part, media outlets affiliated with the Houthi group reported that American and British bombings carried out two raids on Labwan Island in Hodeidah, western Yemen.
This comes as part of strikes directed by the United States and Britain on sites under the control of the Houthi group, with the aim of disrupting and weakening its ability to endanger freedom of navigation and threaten global trade.
