The Indian Navy intercepted a ship carrying 3.3 tons of drugs, in an operation considered one of the largest drug seizures in the country’s history, and it took place in the Arabian Sea along the borders of international waters.
The Indian Navy spokesman stated that the operation was carried out in the international waters of the Arabian Sea in conjunction with the Indian Navy, the Anti-Terrorism Squad in the Indian state of Gujarat, and the Narcotics Control Bureau.
He added: “The Indian Navy, in coordinated operations with the Narcotics Control Bureau, intercepted a suspicious ship carrying approximately 3,300 kilograms of smuggled materials (3,089 kg of cannabis, 158 kg of methamphetamine, and 25 kg of morphine).”
The spokesman pointed out that this shipment of narcotics and contraband is considered much larger than any shipment seized earlier.
In turn, a senior official of the federal drug control agency confirmed to The Indian Express that, “The Narcotics Control Bureau and other agencies have unearthed another international drug trafficking network and made the largest foreign bust (in terms of quantity) in the country’s history.”
He indicated that the crew of the intercepted ship was detained and handed over to law enforcement authorities.
It is believed that the five people arrested on board the boat are Iranians or Pakistanis, and no personal documents were found on them to prove this.
