A meeting of the “Robimar” ship crisis management cell, headed by the Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, today, in the capital, Aden, discussed the catastrophic repercussions of the sinking of the cargo ship “Robimar” in the Red Sea, and possible developments in the incident.
The meeting, which included the Ministers of the Environment of Djibouti and Eritrea, the ambassadors of a number of European Union countries, America, Britain and China, representatives of international organizations concerned with the environment, experts, and the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Diego Zorrilla, discussed the steps and common positions on the plan to respond to the risks of environmental pollution and ways to Enough to limit the repercussions of the disaster on the Yemeni coasts, the Red Sea and the countries surrounding it.
The Minister of Water and Environment reviewed the catastrophic damage resulting from the Houthi militia’s attack on the ship “Rubimar” and the threats resulting from the recurrence of military operations on maritime shipping lines and its impact on marine life and the environment.
Engineer Al-Sharjabi referred to Security Council Resolution No. 2216, which recommended preventing the flow of weapons to the Houthis, and Resolution No. 2722, which encourages member states to support efforts to build the capabilities of the Yemeni government’s coast guard and ports in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to enhance maritime security... calling on the regional community. And the international community, to assume its responsibility to stop these threats and disasters carried out by the terrorist Houthi militias, and to help Yemen confront the challenges that accompany this problem.
For his part, the Deputy Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations explained that the United Nations is keen to provide technical support to the concerned authorities of the Yemeni government and to employ a number of experts scheduled to arrive within the next two days, as well as coordination with international organizations to potentially confront the repercussions of the sinking of the ship.
The meeting included a presentation of the response plan submitted by the Crisis Management Cell, the efforts made, and the requirements for confronting the crisis and containing its repercussions.
