The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, renewed his commitment to continue working to return the Houthi militia to the path of peace and abandon the option of war, which will only bring more crises for the Yemeni people.
The UN envoy, during his meeting with Yemen’s representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, expressed his appreciation for the support shown by the government for his efforts, praising the flexibility and concessions made by the government with the aim of alleviating the suffering of the Yemenis.
For his part, the representative of Yemen to the United Nations stressed the keenness of the Presidential Council and the government to support the efforts of the Special Envoy and regional and international efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement of the conflict in Yemen based on the agreed upon terms of reference and relevant Security Council resolutions.
He pointed to the terrorist Houthi militias’ evasion of peace obligations by creating crises and escalation in the Red Sea, and the militias’ continued stubbornness and lack of seriousness in engaging in good faith with regional peace efforts and the efforts of the Special Envoy.
Stressing the need to put pressure on the Houthi militias to stop their escalation in the Red Sea and push them towards the dialogue table to end the conflict and revive hope for a return to the possibility of achieving the desired peace.
