The European Union mission in the Red Sea announced, on Wednesday, that a French naval helicopter destroyed a combat drone belonging to the Houthis, in the south of the Red Sea.
Reuters quoted a statement issued by Aspidus headquarters in the Greek city of Larissa, saying that a French warship destroyer spotted a drone belonging to the Iran-allied Houthi movement flying near commercial ships
Aspides added that the French helicopter, which “was patrolling the area, was directed by the destroyer to deal with the drone and destroy it with its automatic weapon.”
The ASPIDS mission was launched in February with the aim of protecting the main route for global trade from attacks launched by the Houthi group with drones and missiles.
The Houthi group carries out attacks on ships in the Red and Arab Bahrain, and says that its attacks come in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Zionist war on the Gaza Strip.
