Southern politicians celebrate Mahri Language Day, which falls on Monday, October 2 every year.
The southern politicians stressed that: “One of the most important etiquettes of the Southern Transitional Council is to respect the cultural, historical and geographical identities and particularities of all regions of the south and to preserve them within the framework of the comprehensive southern national identity,” noting that this confirms that the coming south is a south that respects the privacy of each governorate and region.
They noted the importance that the Mahri language enjoys among the Mahri people in particular, and the people of the south in general, as an authentic southern heritage whose roots extend back thousands of years.
They pointed to the high status of the Mahri language in the south as it is a language belonging to one of the most important governorates of the south.
They also mentioned that one of the most important outcomes of the Southern National Dialogue was special attention to the Mahri and Socotri languages, rooting them, traditionalizing them, documenting them, teaching them, and even adopting them as a second official language within their region within the framework of the upcoming federal state of the South.
Southern activists and politicians this afternoon, Monday, October 2, 2023, launched the hashtag #Mahari_language_southern_legacy on social media sites, the most famous of which is the (X) platform, formerly known as (Twitter), coinciding with the advent of Mahri Language Day.
They pointed out the importance of the Mahri heritage and the popular heritage of the Mahra people.
The southern politicians said: “Article No. (23) of the outcomes of the Southern National Dialogue stipulates (attention to the Arabic language as the official language of the state and the people, with special attention being paid to the Mahri and Socotri languages, to root, traditionalize, document, and teach them, and to adopt them as a second official language within the scope of their territory).”< /p>
They noted that all the people of the South in all their governorates and regions will celebrate Mahri Language Day as an authentic, unifying southern identity, noting, in the same context, that all the people of the South respect the symbolism and cultural and historical privacy of the Mahri people, and of every southern governorate.
They added: “The South, with its natural, human, demographic, political, social and cultural geography, according to the facts prevailing before May 22, 1990, is a homeland and a national identity that includes all and all of its people with their various segments and political, social, cultural and intellectual affiliations, and all of them are equal in the rights and duties of citizenship without discrimination between them due to... (Religion, sex, colour, race, language, social origin, sect, economic or social status, political or intellectual affiliation).”
They pointed out that: “Mahri Language Day, which falls on October 2 of each year, coincides with the 60th anniversary of the glorious October 14 Revolution, which was sparked by the northern mountains of Buttocks.”
They reaffirmed that: “Al-Mahra Governorate, with its heritage, language, and specificity, is southern in passion and identity, and with the project of restoring the state of the South with full sovereignty over the borders before May 21, 1990.”
They stressed that the South is establishing a state based on respecting the privacy of each region and governorate, which demonstrates the level of maturity that the South has reached today, by including in one of the articles of the outcomes of the Southern National Dialogue the interest in the Mahri and Socotri languages.
They continued: “The South today places a special place and importance on the specificity of each governorate and region within the framework of the upcoming State of the South.”
Southern politicians also called on all users of social media platforms to interact strongly with the hashtag #Mahari_Language_Southern_Legacy.
