The Group of Seven Industrialized Countries (G7) called on the Houthi group to engage positively with all UN and international efforts aimed at launching a political process to end the sustainable conflict in Yemen.
The G7 foreign ministers said, in the final statement of their meetings on the island of Capri, Italy, today, Friday: “We urge all parties to the conflict in Yemen, especially the Houthis, to engage in good faith in preparations for a comprehensive political process in consultation with civil society and under the auspices of the United Nations.” .
In their statement, the Foreign Ministers renewed their full and strong support for the efforts made by the United Nations and its Special Envoy to Yemen. Hans Grundberg, in order to reach a lasting and comprehensive solution to the conflict in the country.
The statement welcomed the understanding reached in December 2023 between the Presidential Command Council and the Houthi group, which included a commitment to a set of measures to implement the ceasefire and improve living conditions nationwide.
He stressed the need for the Yemeni parties to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law, by removing all obstacles and impediments that prevent safe and rapid access to humanitarian aid to all those in need, especially the most vulnerable groups, and to stop requirements that restrict women’s freedom of movement.
The seven foreign ministers expressed their concern about the conditions experienced by Yemeni civilians and the multiple violations they are exposed to, and called for “accountability for human rights violations, including serious violations of children’s rights, and abuses and violations of international humanitarian law.”
