The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, today concluded a new round of talks focused on reviving the peace process in the country.
During his tour, Grundberg met with the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Shaye’ Al-Zindani, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, said in a tweet on his official Twitter account that the latest developments and the efforts of the UN envoy regarding the road map to reach a comprehensive political solution in Yemen were discussed during the meeting.
Al Jaber stressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s support for Grundberg’s efforts to achieve security, peace and development in Yemen, and to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people.
A delegation from the Office of the UN Envoy, led by the Deputy Head of the Mission, also met with the Prime Minister of Yemen, Ahmed bin Mubarak, and a number of senior officials in the city of Aden, yesterday.
The talks in Aden focused on the economic challenges facing Yemen, the need to alleviate economic tensions, and work towards finding a comprehensive political solution.
Grundberg had previously met with a delegation of the Houthis and senior leaders of the Sultanate of Oman in Muscat.
The United Nations is seeking to revive the peace process in Yemen, which has been halted since 2018, amid the escalation of the conflict between the Yemeni government, supported by the Arab coalition, and the Houthi group, supported by Iran.
The UN roadmap includes a ceasefire, the reopening of Sanaa International Airport, and the resumption of peace negotiations.
The international community hopes to achieve progress in the peace process, to achieve peace and stability in Yemen, and to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
