Residents of the Lamatir area, in Al Rawda District in Shabwa Governorate, complained about the continued oil spill and its impact on the groundwater feeding their wells.

According to local residents, the oil leak occurred from the oil pipeline that passes through the region, and it extends from the Safer facility in Ma’rib Governorate to the port of Al-Nashima in Shabwa Governorate.

They added that the oil leak occurred only 300 meters from the Lamatir Water Project. This poses a real threat to the water field.

They pointed out that the leak has been continuing for years and the pipe is being repaired using primitive methods, instead of replacing it because it has become dilapidated.

It should be noted that the Governor of Shabwa, Awad Ibn Al-Wazir, resides in the UAE permanently, which has made the issues and problems of the governorate outside his priorities.
