The Gulf Cooperation Council affirmed, on Monday, its support for international efforts to achieve security, stability, development and peace in all of Yemen for the benefit and prosperity of the Yemeni people.
The Gulf Cooperation Council’s confirmations came through its Secretary-General, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, during his meeting with Hans Grundberg, the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, on Monday, where they reviewed the latest developments taking place on the Yemeni scene.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed several topics, most notably the firm position of the Cooperation Council regarding supporting legitimacy in Yemen and ending the Yemeni crisis by reaching a political solution to the crisis in accordance with the three terms of reference, represented by the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216.
Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed what was stated in the statement of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf at its 44th session in Doha last December, which included full support for the Presidential Leadership Council headed by Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, and the entities supporting it to achieve security and stability in Yemen. .
In addition to his meeting with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Grundberg met with the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia and the UAE to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber and Mohammed Al Zaabi, and the ambassadors of the permanent members of the Security Council.
According to the office of the UN envoy, the discussions (during the meetings) focused on the prospects for peace in Yemen and ways to sustain support for the region and advance UN mediation.
