The Republic of Yemen welcomed, on Thursday, the decision of the friendly Australian government to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization under the Australian Criminal Code of 1995.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement today, “This decision is fully consistent with the Yemeni government’s classification of this terrorist group in accordance with Yemeni laws and is a response to the Yemeni government’s call to the international community to quickly work to include the Houthi militia on international terrorist lists, prosecute and hold its leaders accountable, and stop... Its terrorist practices threaten regional and international security and reflect seriously on international shipping lines and global trade, and its ongoing crimes against civilians in Yemen.”
The Foreign Ministry reiterated the government’s assertion that bringing peace to Yemen requires the Houthi militia to abandon its terrorist approach and its dependence on the Iranian regime, renounce violence, and deal seriously and responsibly with international initiatives and endeavors aimed at achieving peace in Yemen, including the UN road map and the efforts made by our brothers in Yemen. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman, and all laudable efforts aimed at ending human suffering and achieving security and stability in Yemen and the region.
