The leader of the Houthi militia, Abdul Qadir Al-Murtada, announced the Houthis’ intention to release 100 prisoners and kidnapped members of the Yemeni government tomorrow, Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Al-Murtada stated in a press statement that this step comes from one party as part of a humanitarian initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering of prisoners, abductees and their families, while continuing to obstruct the launch of the comprehensive deal.
Despite this announcement, observers confirmed that the release of prisoners does not absolve the Houthis of responsibility for the crimes of enforced disappearance they committed, and they added that the militia is still committing violations against civilians, kidnapping them from the streets, educational and media institutions, and civil society organizations.
