The Presidential Leadership Council announced, on Thursday, the receipt of the fourth installment of the Saudi grant, estimated at $1.2 billion.
This came in a post by the Chairman of the Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, on his account on the X platform.
In August 2023, Saudi Arabia announced the provision of economic support to Yemen amounting to $1.2 billion, in response to the government’s request to help it address the general budget deficit, and in the same month it provided the first installment of $250 million.
While Riyadh provided the second and third installments last January and February, at the same value.
Alimi said: “Today, the Kingdom’s leadership fulfilled its promise, to deposit a new batch of its generous grant to the general budget.”
He added, “The new payment will have a significant impact on the state’s continued fulfillment of its imperative obligations, primarily paying employee salaries and meeting the increasing service and humanitarian needs.”
In this context, Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak said, in a post on the same platform, “This support will enable the government to pay the salaries of state employees, improve electricity services, stop the deterioration in currency rates, and proceed with the financial and administrative reform program.”
p>While the Yemeni government did not mention the number that was deposited, a source in the Central Bank of Yemen told the Turkish Anadolu Agency that the amount was estimated at about 500 million dollars.
The source, preferring to remain anonymous, added that the details of the amount deposited will be announced in the coming hours in an official statement.
Due to the repercussions of the war, Yemen is suffering one of the worst humanitarian and economic crises in the world, with more than 20 million people in need of aid, according to the United Nations.
