US intelligence claimed that Saudi Arabia stopped Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to arm the Houthi militia in Yemen.
The British Middle East Eye website, quoting a senior American official, added that Putin asked Saudi Arabia for permission to arm the Houthis in Yemen with cruise missiles, but the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, intervened to prevent him from doing so.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Wagner Group, a Russian paramilitary group, is planning to provide Lebanese Hezbollah with a Russian air defense system.
Wagner is described as a private military company, and some classify it as a semi-official military group, but the New York Times classified it as an independent military unit affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
It was named “Wagner” after its founder, who had the secret name “Wagner,” and it is said that its founder named it Wagner after the German musician Richard Wagner.
The Wagner Forces were established in 2014, and started with about a thousand fighters. Their number increased over time and reached 20,000.
