Media sources reported that the Houthi group officially informed the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights today of the decision to close its office in Sanaa.
The group gave UNHCR employees three days to leave the city, and this measure comes after the Houthis arrested eight UNHCR employees earlier.
The sources stated that the closure decision is part of the Houthis’ escalation against international organizations operating in the areas they control.
This measure is expected to have a negative impact on the monitoring and documentation operations carried out by UNHCR in Yemen, which is concerned with following up on human rights violations and providing humanitarian aid.
