During my visit to Al-Hawta Court in Lahj Governorate, I had the opportunity to speak with one of the judges about the noticeable increase in divorce rates in the governorate.
When I was asked about the main reasons for this phenomenon, the judge confirmed that the difficult economic situation that the country is going through is one of the most prominent factors behind this rise.
The judge noted that high unemployment rates pose a huge burden on families, as many couples find themselves unable to provide basic life requirements.
This economic pressure leads to tensions and disagreements between couples, and these disagreements often end in divorce. In addition, he explained that the increasing cost of living adds more complexity to families' lives, as it has become difficult for many families to secure their daily needs.
The judge continued his speech by saying that economic challenges are not the only factor, but it is considered the most important and influential factor. He pointed out that such circumstances often exacerbate other social problems, such as parental interference or the inability to achieve understanding between spouses.
In the end, the judge stressed the importance of activating the role of government agencies and community organizations to provide the necessary support to families, whether by providing job opportunities or awareness programs that help couples overcome these crises and achieve greater family stability.
Finally, no one denies that there are very big challenges facing families in Lahj, and therefore they must be highlighted in order to search for comprehensive solutions to reduce divorce rates and ensure the stability of Lahj society in light of the difficult economic conditions.
