Alex Garcia, who recently joined Bayer Leverkusen, spoke about the successes of last season, and the extent of his team’s ability to repeat that this season.
Garcia began his interview with the Spanish newspaper "Marca" by talking about his new coach, Xabi Alonso: "He was a great player and now he appears to be a great coach as well. I loved his long passes very much when I used to watch him when I was young."
He added: “I would love to learn from him how to position myself when receiving the ball in order to pass it better, and to be good at making long passes like him.”
On the quick transitions in the Bundesliga: “We have players who are calm when in possession of the ball, and we also have very fast wings that are able to give us speed in transitions.”
Considering what he believes he can offer the team: “It is very difficult to do better than what happened last year, but if the coach decides to sign me, this means his belief in my ability to contribute.”
As for the fact that winning the Bundesliga was a small miracle last season and the extent of Leverkusen’s ability to repeat that: “I do not believe in miracles. Leverkusen won the Bundesliga as the best team. The same thing happened with Girona. There was no miracle, and we believe in our ability to repeat it in Leverkusen".
He commented on how much he prefers facing Girona in the Champions League: “Yes, facing them will be great. It is normal for Girona to lose its players, but I am confident that it will rebuild itself.”
