English international midfielder Jude Bellingham will miss Real Madrid, the Spanish League and Champions League champion, for nearly a month due to a calf injury he suffered during training.
Real Madrid said in a statement, without specifying the duration of the former Borussia Dortmund player's absence, "After the tests conducted today on Jude Bellingham by the Real Madrid medical staff, the player was diagnosed with an injury to the plantar muscle of his right leg."
An injury of this type usually takes about a month to recover from, according to Spanish media estimates, which means Bellingham will be absent from the Spanish League matches against Real Valladolid, Las Palmas and Real Betis, in addition to England's matches in the European Nations League against Ireland and Finland in September.
Real's Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti said in a press conference on Friday that Bellingham "suffered a blow, and we are assessing it."
The international midfielder was one of the main pillars of Real's squad last season and helped lead him to the league and Champions League double in his first season with him.
In Real Madrid's first two matches this season, Bellingham played in the pivotal midfield position to accommodate the arrival of French striker Kylian Mbappe, after playing in a more advanced position last season.
The 21-year-old hopes to be ready for Real's first match in the Champions League, which is scheduled to be held between September 17 and 19.
