The first Iraqi car to enter Kuwait... a match that ends a 33-year rupture
The football match between Iraq and Kuwait in the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup, scheduled to be held on Tuesday, September 10, ended the stalemate between the two countries by entering the first Iraqi car into Kuwait.
The Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait, Al-Manhal Al-Safi, announced the entry of the first Iraqi car into Kuwaiti territory, after a break of more than 33 years, on the sidelines of the football match between the Iraqi and Kuwaiti national teams next Tuesday.
Al-Safi posted on his personal account on the “X” platform that the car belonged to an Iraqi citizen who came to attend the match, and at the end of his tweet, the Iraqi ambassador thanked Kuwait for the good reception.
The Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Al-Mubarqa, supervised with the ambassador the entry of the car belonging to an Iraqi family into Kuwait.
Al-Mubarqa arrived in Kuwait on an official visit, where he met with the Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Culture and the Minister of State for Youth Affairs to discuss ways to strengthen youth and sports relations between the two countries.
Kuwait allowed 5,000 Iraqi fans to attend the match, after coordination with the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Kuwaiti Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, according to the Iraqi ambassador’s tweet
The entry of the car sparked great interaction on social media, after a video clip was published documenting the arrival of the first Iraqi car to Kuwait in more than 30 years, after the liberation of Kuwait from the Iraqi invasion in August 1990.
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi team enters its match against Kuwait at the top of Group Two, after succeeding in achieving three points and winning its first match against the Omani team with a score of 1-0, on the way to advancing to the World Cup finals for the second time in its history.
The Iraqi national team previously qualified once, in 1986 in Argentina.
While the Kuwaiti national team seeks to achieve its first victory against Iraq, after falling to the Jordanian national team in a draw in the first round match, the Kuwaiti national team ranks second in its group with a single point.
