Arsenal won the North London derby, beating its neighbor and host Tottenham 1-0 on Sunday evening, in the top of the fourth round of the English Premier League.
Gabriel Magallaes scored the only goal of the match in the 64th minute with a powerful header.
Arsenal won second place with 10 points, two points behind leaders Manchester City, while Tottenham's balance remained at 4 points in 13th place.
The first dangerous opportunity in the match came in the 5th minute, when Tottenham player Dejan Kulusevski received a ball from his teammate Son Heung-min, so he shot from a narrow angle, and was blocked by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
Arsenal full-back Ben White lost the ball, and it reached Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson, who fired a hasty shot that went wide of the goal in the 14th minute.
Arsenal responded in the 17th minute, when left winger Gabriel Martinelli got rid of his marker and raised a ball towards the far post, which was met by German striker Kai Havertz, but Tottenham goalkeeper Vicario remedied the situation with an outstanding save.
Two minutes later, Martinelli made his way down the left flank, but preferred to shoot with his right foot instead of passing to Bukayo Saka, to remove the danger from Vicario.
Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke was about to open the score in the 28th minute, when he headed in a cross from Son, but his ball went past the left post.
The atmosphere became tense in the 35th minute, after a clash between Vicario and Arsenal full-back Jurien Temper, and Johnson sealed the series of first-half chances, with a shot over the Arsenal goal from the right side in stoppage time.
Goalkeeper Raya easily controlled Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven's header in the 49th minute.
The tense atmosphere continued with a new clash between Son and Arsenal player Leandro Trossard.
Arsenal opened the scoring in the 64th minute, when Saka executed a corner kick, which was met by defender Gabriel Magallaes with a powerful header that shook Tottenham's net.
Pape Sarr and Wilson Odubert replaced Rodrigo Bentancur Johnson in the Tottenham lineup.
James Maddison lofted a cross that Solanke tried to follow with his head, but Magalies saved the situation in the 76th minute.
Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou included his German striker Timo Werner at the expense of Maddison, while Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta included the duo Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling in place of Martinelli and Trossard.
The injury forced Saka off the field, and Ethan Nwaneri took his place.
Then Kulusevski tried his luck with a shot in stoppage time that went over the crossbar shortly before the final whistle blew.
