German Toni Kroos, the retired Real Madrid midfielder, revealed the reason for the failure of his transfer to Manchester United, before playing for the Royal Team.
Kroos said in statements reported by the German newspaper “Bild”: “At an early stage, I reached an agreement in 2014 before I signed for Real Madrid, by moving to Manchester United.”
He added: “But then David Moyes was sacked and Louis van Gaal was appointed. I declined the offer with thanks.”
Kroos previously worked under Van Gaal at Bayern Munich, and although he participated as a starter, he did not play in his preferred position.
He continued: “Moyes came to me in private and the contract matter was settled, but after his dismissal and Van Gaal’s appointment, things became complicated, and United did not contact me for a while and doubts began to swirl.”
Kroos (34 years old) concluded: “Then the World Cup competitions started and (Carlo) Ancelotti contacted me and the matter was settled
