Liverpool topped the Premier League standings, beating host Wolverhampton 2-1 on Saturday evening, in Round 6 of the English Premier League.
The goals for Liverpool were scored by Ibrahima Konate in the 45th minute (45+2) and Mohamed Salah (61 from a penalty kick), while Rayan Ait Nouri scored Wolverhampton's goal (56).
Liverpool took the lead after raising its score to 15 points, one point behind Manchester City and Arsenal, while Wolverhampton remained in last place with one point.
The first dangerous opportunity in the match came for Wolverhampton in the 5th minute, when Belgrade passed Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, taking advantage of Ait Nouri’s pass, before firing a shot that was controlled by goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah sent a smart ball in his usual way into the penalty area, but his Portuguese colleague Diogo Jota failed to control it and it slipped into the goalkeeper’s hands in the 11th minute.
A cross from Wolverhampton right-back Nelson Semedo caused confusion inside Liverpool's penalty area, but Alisson was able to clear the dangerous crosses of Ait Nouri and Lemina in the 21st minute..
One minute later, Semedo received the ball on the right side, before passing it back to Mateo Cunha, who shot from a difficult angle, a ball that was blocked by Alisson.
Liverpool winger Luis Diaz's cross rebounded to the same player, but the Colombian's shot rebounded off Lemina in the 26th minute.
The referee awarded a free kick in favor of Liverpool, and Alexander-Arnold rushed to execute it, but goalkeeper Sam Johnstone controlled his shot in the 32nd minute.
Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson started from the left side, before passing in front of the goal to his Hungarian teammate Dominik Soboszlai, who was prevented by Johnstone from scoring from a comfortable position in the 40th minute.
Liverpool finally managed to take the lead in stoppage time of the first half, through its defender Konate, who headed into the net, a cross from Jota.
Wolverhampton started the second half attacking, but Lemina made a mistake in passing the ball, and it was picked up by Salah, who shot from a comfortable position next to the far post in the 50th minute.
Johnston excelled again in blocking a powerful shot from Robertson in the 51st minute, before Wolverhampton succeeded in equalizing the score in the 56th minute, when Strand Larsen took advantage of Konate's delay in clearing the ball, reaching substitute Forbes, who in turn tried to shoot it, reaching Ait Nouri. The latter completed the ball into the goal.
But Liverpool quickly regained their lead, when the referee awarded them a penalty kick, after Jota was caught by Semedo, and Salah successfully executed the kick in the 61st minute.
Salah almost added the second goal in the 65th minute, when he received a pass from Alexander Arnold, before directing a curved left shot, which Johnstone excelled in blocking.
Kunha penetrated Liverpool's penalty area from the right side, before firing a shot near the near post.
Forbes then got rid of Alexander-Arnold, before he tried to shoot, but Konate was brave enough to stop him in the 72nd minute.
Cody Jacobo and Curtis Jones entered Liverpool's lineup instead of Diaz and Soboslai.
Salah launched a counterattack, but he did not pass well to Jones, so Johnston controlled the ball in the 77th minute.
Liverpool was about to increase its lead in the 79th minute, when Jones exchanged the ball with Alexander-Arnold, before shooting, but Johnston blocked his attempt.
From a rebound ball following a corner kick, the ball reached Liverpool midfielder Alexis McAllister, who raised it, so Konate rose to it and headed over the goal in the 83rd minute.
