Ittihad Jeddah team achieved a precious victory at the expense of its host, Al-Ukhdood, with a score of (2-1) during the match that brought together the two sides, this Thursday evening, in the sixth round of the Saudi Professional League Championship.
Al-Ittihad raised its score to 15 points at the top of the professional league standings, equal with Al-Hilal but trailing on goal difference, before Al-Zaeem plays its match in the same round against Al-Ahly Jeddah, the day after tomorrow, Saturday.
Al-Ittihad's double was scored by Karim Benzema (50th minute) and Houssem Aouar (89th minute), while Al-Akhdood's only goal was scored by Saleh Al-Abbas (5th+90th minute).
The Al-Akhdood team, the home team and the fans, surprised its counterpart, Al-Ittihad, with a great defensive organization and distinctive counter-attacks, amid the guests’ control and possession, but to no avail.
The first threat in the match came from Cameroonian Christian Basogog, the groove player, who fired a powerful shot, but Serbian Predrag Rajkovic, the Al-Ittihad goalkeeper, blocked it very brilliantly.
In the 20th minute, Frenchman Karim Benzema almost opened the scoring in the match for Al-Ittihad, as he tried to pass the groove goalkeeper, but failed to do so, before one of the defenders was able to push the ball out of the field.
After 4 minutes, the groove returned to threaten Al-Ittihad through a header from Mali Ibrahima Kony, but Rajkovic blocked it very brilliantly, and it turned into a corner kick.
The groove continued to close all outlets for Al-Ittihad, which passed the ball left and right, but failed to reach the home team's goal, so the first half ended in a goalless draw.
In the second half, Al-Ittihad entered a different way by putting strong pressure on the opponent, scoring the first goal after only 5 minutes through Benzema with a missile shot, after receiving a magic pass from his compatriot Moussa Diaby.
He did not stop there, as Dutchman Steven Bergwijn sent a dangerous cross from the left side, which passed everyone, especially Benzema, who almost scored the second goal in the 53rd minute.
Just two minutes later, Zimbabwean Knowlede Musona tried to equalize for Al-Ghudoo through a powerful shot that passed near the left post of Al-Ittihad goalkeeper.
The 67th minute witnessed a dangerous attempt by Diaby, who shot the ball from the right side, but the goalkeeper of the groove deflected it into a corner kick, after which Al-Ittihad continued its possession of the ball and its constant pressure.
On the other hand, Al-Akhdood tried to threaten Al-Ittihad’s goal, but failed due to the Al-Ameed players’ quick rebound and continuous attacks until the 85th minute, when Algerian Hossam Aouar fired a shot that went over the crossbar.
But he did not stop there, as he scored his team's second goal in the 89th minute, via a wonderful header, taking advantage of a distinctive cross from his Dutch colleague Steven Bergwijn.
Saleh Al-Abbas succeeded in reducing the difference in favor of Al-Akhdood with the first goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, after receiving a wonderful cross from the left side.
