Manchester City waited until stoppage time, to achieve a valuable victory over its host Wolverhampton 2-1 on Sunday evening, in the eighth round of the English Premier League.
Jurgen Strand Larsen scored Wolverhampton's goal in the 7th minute, Josko Gvardiol equalized for City in the 33rd minute, then John Stones snatched the winning goal in the 90th + 5th minute.
City's balance rose to 20 points at the top temporarily, with a two-point difference ahead of Liverpool, which will host Chelsea later this evening, Sunday, while Wolverhampton's balance remained one point in last place.
As usual, Manchester City dominated at the beginning of the match, and its left winger exchanged the ball with midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, before firing a shot that went wide of Wolverhampton’s goal in the 6th minute.
Wolverhampton was able to open the scoring in the 7th minute, when right-back Nelson Semedo launched with the ball from a counterattack and passed the ball in front of the goal, so it passed in front of everyone and reached Strand Larsen, who easily followed it into the net.
Manchester City almost achieved an equalizer in the 9th minute, when Gundogan sent a cross, which Bernardo Silva met with a touch, but Wolverhampton goalkeeper Jose Sa saved the situation brilliantly.
In another counter-attack, Wolverhampton striker Cunha passed the ball to Semedo, who ran with it alone, but Gvardiol cooperated with goalkeeper Ederson to block the Portuguese player’s attempt in the 19th minute.
After a series of attacks that did not produce the required threat to the goal, Manchester City was able to achieve an equalizer in the 33rd minute, through Gvardiol, who received a pass from Doku, before firing a powerful shot that landed in the upper corner of the goal.
Sa worked hard to save his goal from a goal achieved in stoppage time of the first half, when he blocked Brazilian winger Savinho's low shot.
The Portuguese goalkeeper extended his series of amazing saves in the 54th minute, when he pounced on Manchester City defender Ruben Diaz's low shot from a long distance.
Wolverhampton responded in the 56th minute, with a similar shot from Cunha, which went past the post.
Gundogan's shot landed in the hands of goalkeeper Sa in the 65th minute, then English international Phil Foden entered the City squad instead of Doku.
City star Bernardo, from Silva, penetrated the penalty area from the right side, before passing to Savinho, who fired a stray shot towards the stands in the 70th minute.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola brought in his English winger Jack Grealish instead of Savinho, and blood flowed from Silva's head after Foden accidentally kicked him.
The remaining minutes passed calmly and slowly, and Wolverhampton's defense cleared a cross, which reached Grealish, who shot from the outskirts of the penalty area, but Sa controlled his ball easily in the 88th minute.
In stoppage time, Foden took a corner kick, and defender John Stones rose to it and headed it into the net, to the great joy of his teammates, and the goal was confirmed after using video technology.
