Morocco's Wydad settled for a 1-0 victory over Esperance of Tunisia, this Sunday evening, at Mohammed V Stadium, in the first leg of the African League semi-finals.
Hisham Bousfiane scored the only goal of the match, in the 57th minute, so the decision was postponed until the match between Rades in Tunisia next Wednesday.
Wydad started the match perfectly, putting intense pressure on Esperance's goal, and the Casablanca team had the first opportunity in the 7th minute, when Yahia Gebran passed the ball, but Sharqi El Bahri arrived late.
Hisham Boussifan tried his luck with a shot in the 19th minute, but his ball passed the goalkeeper Moez Ben Sherifia's post.
Esperance appeared calm to absorb the enthusiasm of the Wydad players, and the match remained relatively calm until the last quarter of an hour of the first half, where Wydad wasted 3 chances within 5 minutes.
The chances began with a header from Ayoub Al-Amoud in the 33rd minute that passed near the post, after which a shot from Ayman Abu Al-Fath was brilliant in clearing it, before Bousfiane tried his luck with another shot, but the Tunisian goalkeeper saved his goal again.
Youssef Al-Mutia, Wydad's goalkeeper, appeared for the first time in the 43rd minute, when he blocked a difficult header from Rodrigo and blocked it with his fingertips, ending the first half in a goalless draw.
At the beginning of the second half, Wydad coach Adel Ramzi brought on Muntaser Al-Hattaimi instead of Mohamed Onajem, to activate the front line.
In the 57th minute, Bosufian sent a falling cross into the penalty area, Galat Ben Sherifia, after interference from Sharqi El Bahri and Amine Toujay.
Wydad almost scored the second goal quickly, but Al-Sharqi Al-Bahri’s header was returned by the crossbar.
The remaining minutes passed without serious attacks on the goals, so Wydad won the first match and awaited the return match at Hammadi Al-Aqrabi Stadium
