The French referee, François Leutisier, decided to cancel the match between Marseille and Lyon, which was scheduled for today, Sunday, in the tenth round of the league.
Leutisier said in a press conference: “We formed a crisis committee and decided not to hold the match, in accordance with the law of the French Football Federation, due to the attack on the Lyon bus.”
He added: “We have sent a decision to the competent authorities in the Football Association and the French League, to take the necessary action.”
For its part, the newspaper "L'Equipe" reported that Fabio Grosso, Lyon's coach, suffered a mild concussion and a 3-cm incision in his head after Marseille fans threw stones at Lyon's bus.
She indicated that Grosso's injury does not make him able to lead his team on the field, and 3 other of his assistant coaches suffered injuries that prevent them from making the return trip to Lyon.
The newspaper pointed out that this is not the first time that Lyon’s match against Marseille has been cancelled, as this happened again on November 21, 2021 after a water bottle was thrown at Dimitri Payet, the Marseille star.
It was then decided to deduct a point from the Olympique Lyonnais team, and the match was repeated without fans, with Lyon winning with a score of (2-1).
