Al-Ahly of Egypt and Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates met at Cairo International Stadium, on Tuesday evening, in the Intercontinental Club Confederations Cup.
The match was held under the name “Africa - Asia - Pacific Cup”, so that Al-Ahly obtained a championship cup bearing this name after the first confrontation between the two teams in history.
Al-Ahly succeeded in defeating Al-Ain with a score of 3-0, qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2024 Confederations Cup.
Al-Ahly took the lead with the first goal through Palestinian striker Wissam Abu Ali in the 32nd minute.
The goal was a grave error committed by Yahya Nader, who returned a short ball to goalkeeper Khaled Issa, and Abu Ali pounced on it and directed it directly into the net.
The “Red Giant” strengthened its lead with a second goal in the 55th minute after Imam Ashour met Taher Muhammad’s cross from the right side, with a wonderful shot at the bird, which Issa was unable to stop.
At the end of the match’s regular time, Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed received a penalty kick, which was converted by Mohamed Magdy Qafsha, from which he scored the third goal for Al-Ahly.
Al-Ahly’s participation in the 2024 Intercontinental Club Cup came after being crowned champion of the African Champions League, and the same applies to Al-Ain, the Emirati champions of Asia.
Al-Ahly is waiting to know its opponent in the semi-finals of the 2024 Intercontinental Cup, which is the qualifier from the Mexican match between Pachuca, the CONCACAF champion, and the South American champion, who will win the Libertadores Cup.
