Esperance defeated its eternal rival, Etoile du Sahel, at its home stadium and among its fans, and won it with two unanswered goals in the Tunisian League Clásico in the seventh round of the competition, on Sunday.
Esperance achieved victory in the second half, taking the lead with an own goal scored by Etoile du Sahel defender Ziad Boughattas, after he accidentally diverted a cross from Algerian Youssef Belaili into his own net after 63 minutes.
South African Elias Sipho Mokwana added the second goal for Esperance in the 88th minute of the match held at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse, the stronghold of Etoile du Sahel.
With this victory, Esperance regained its memory of victories after three draws and a loss in the last four rounds, raising its score to 12 points in sixth place.
While Etoile du Sahel's suffering continued after two draws and two losses in the last four rounds, its score froze at five points in thirteenth place.
In another match held at the same time, Esperance Zarzis defeated its guest Bizertin with a goal scored by Yousry Dhiflaoui in the 85th minute.
Zarguisi raised its score to 16 points to maintain its position in second place, while Bizertin remained in fourteenth place with four points.
Sfaxien also had to settle for a goalless draw with its guest, Olympique Beji, in a match held at the Taïb Mhiri Stadium.
Olympique Beji remained at the top of the standings with 17 points, but it continued to bleed with a second draw in a row, and CS Sfaxien raised its score to 10 points in eighth place after a third draw in a row.
