The draw for the 26th Gulf Football Championship, which is hosted by Kuwait from December 21 to January 3, 2025, placed our Yemeni team first in the second group alongside defending champion Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
This came during the drawing ceremony held today, Saturday, at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Kuwait, in the presence of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, President of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation, Federation officials and representatives of the eight teams participating in the tournament.
Eight teams are participating in the tournament, divided into two groups, the first of which included (the host Kuwait - Qatar - the Emirates - Oman), while the second group included (the defending champions Iraq - Saudi Arabia - Bahrain - our team Yemen).
The 26th Gulf Championship will be held similar to previous tournaments, with a league system of one round for each group, from which the first and second qualify for the semi-finals, which is held in a knockout system, with the first in the first group meeting the second in the second group, and the first in the second group. With the second of the first group.
The Iraqi national team won the title of the last edition of the tournament in Basra, after defeating Oman 3-2 in the final match.
