The Spanish team Real Madrid suffered a severe blow when its Brazilian defender Eder Militao suffered a serious injury, which will likely end his season.
Militao was injured in the 27th minute of the match that Real Madrid won (4-0) over Osasuna, on Saturday evening, in the 13th round of the Spanish League.
Militao was injured when he took a free kick in the Osasuna penalty area, but his knee stuck and he fell to the grass in severe pain.
His teammates quickly called paramedics, and the Brazilian centre-back was taken off the field.
Details of Militao's injury
Real Madrid published an official statement after the match, confirming that Militao had suffered a cruciate ligament tear.
Real Madrid said: “After the tests conducted today on our player Eder Militao by the club’s medical services, he was diagnosed with a complete tear in the anterior cruciate ligament, with an injury to the meniscus in his right leg.”
The Royal Club explained: “Militao will undergo surgery in the coming days.”
With this, Militao is expected to be absent for a long period that may extend to 9 months, which means that the possibility of him returning to participate this season seems impossible.
Militao suffered a rupture in the cruciate ligament in his left knee against Athletic Bilbao in the first round of the Spanish League at the beginning of last season, and his absence continued for approximately 7 months, until March 2024.
At the present time, Real Madrid is missing the services of right-back Dani Carvajal, as he suffers from the same injury.
While the other defender, David Alaba, continues his recovery journey after suffering a cruciate ligament tear in December 2023, and he is expected to return within several weeks.
