On Monday, the English Football League Arbitration Board suspended referee David Coote after he posted a video clip on social media in which he appears to be making insulting remarks about former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.
It is not clear when the video was filmed or how it was circulated, but according to the clip, Cote said that Klopp was “arrogant” and also used offensive language towards him.
Kote also used insulting terms to describe Klopp, when he was asked about his opinion of the German coach, as he said: “He hit me hard when I was a referee in their match with Burnley during the lockdown period and accused me of being a liar.”
Kote, 42, officiated the match that Liverpool won over Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday in the local league.
The arbitration panel said in a statement: “David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. The arbitration panel will not make any further comment until all procedures are completed.”
