Brazilian Rodrigo Rodriguez, the Tunisian Esperance striker, broke the steadfastness of Wydad's Moroccan goalkeeper, Youssef Al-Motie, in the two teams' match, today, Wednesday, in the second leg of the African League semi-final.
Al-Mutia kept a clean sheet in the two quarter-final matches against Enyimba of Nigeria, before withstanding Esperance for 66 minutes.
In the 66th minute, Youssef Al-Motie failed to keep a clean sheet in front of Rodrigo Rodriguez's header.
The first leg in Morocco ended with Wydad Casablanca defeating its counterpart, Esperance, with an unanswered goal, noting that the return match ended with Esperance winning with the same score (1-0), and the two teams resorted to penalty kicks, which made the Casablanca team smile.
With today's loss, Esperance ended a distinguished series for Wydad coach Adel Ramzi, after inflicting his first defeat in his sixth African match with the Moroccan team.
Ramzy began his African career with Wydad, with a draw away from home with Havia Conakry, before winning the return leg in the Champions League.
