The Oman national team overcame an early deficit with a goal to win 2-1 over Qatar, achieving its first victory in the 26th Gulf Cup, at the opening of the second round matches on Tuesday.
Oman topped the first group with 4 points from a win and a draw, while Qatar stopped at one point from a draw with the Emirates in the first round.
The Kuwaiti national team will face its Emirati counterpart in an expected summit later this evening.

The Qatar national team tried to surprise Oman with a second goal at the beginning of the second half, before Al-Subhi Al-Annabi surprised, as he took advantage of his teammate Ali Al-Busaidi’s pass to add the second goal for Oman in the 52nd minute.
Al-Subhi scored 3 goals in the first two rounds of Gulf 26 and topped the scorers list early.
Almoez Ali came close to scoring the equalizer via a close header in the 69th minute, before returning and wasting another opportunity in the 75th minute.
The series of wasted opportunities by the Qatari side continued after a close side shot from Tariq Hammam in the 83rd minute, before the post responded to substitute Abdul Rahman Mustafa’s shot in the 87th minute, thus wasting a new opportunity for the Asian champion to equalize.
