Mohamed Dahham scored a wonderful goal, clinching the qualification of his country, Kuwait, from Group A after a 1-1 draw with Qatar and following an exciting end to the match, in the third and final round today, Friday.
Kuwait Blue thus qualified for the semi-finals with 5 points, alongside the Omani team with the same score, which tied 1-1 with the UAE, which exited the competition early.
Qatar, the Asian champion, exited the tournament in the first round for the second consecutive edition after obtaining only two points from two draws.
Dahham shell decides and Kuwait qualifies
The Qatar national team succeeded in imposing its advantage in the minutes of the first half with the speed of the sides, but all its attempts to score the net failed.
Jassim Jaber did not take advantage of a dangerous opportunity to score in the 35th minute, depriving Qatar of the lead, before Kuwaiti goalkeeper Khaled Al-Rashidi saved the most dangerous opportunity in the first half against Al-Moez Ali in the 37th minute.
The Blue team, for its part, relied on shooting weapons. After a first attempt from Dahham in the 44th minute and a second attempt from Youssef Nasser in the 45th minute, the latter sent a severe warning to Qatar’s goal with a shot close to the goal in the 59th minute.
Kuwait came close to scoring against Qatar in the 62nd and 63rd minutes, after Al-Qaim returned two successive balls to Dahham.
Dahham Samoud ended the Qatari goal by scoring the first goal from a wonderful free kick in the 74th minute that surprised goalkeeper Salah Zakaria.
Dahham scored his third international goal with Kuwait in 2024 from outside the penalty area, after his goals against Jordan and South Korea in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
From a header, Mohamed Muntari scored the equalizer for Qatar after returning to the video assistant referee technique.
