Star Kylian Mbappe has informed his club, Paris Saint-Germain, the French football champion, of his intention to leave at the end of the season, according to what a source close to the club revealed to Agence France-Presse.
Mbappe (25 years old), who joined the capital team in 2017, coming from Monaco, had extended his contract in 2022 until 2024, but last summer he refused to activate a clause allowing him to stay another year at the Parc des Princes.
The same source revealed: “The terms of departure must still be fully agreed upon,” and the club and Mbappe will announce the matter officially “when everything is completed in the coming months.”
The Parisian club refused to comment when contacted by Agence France-Presse.
Mbappe will leave Saint-Germain as a free player, but the two parties negotiated last summer an agreement requiring the player to waive part of his bonuses mentioned in his contract, amounting to “tens” of millions of dollars.
After seven seasons in the ranks of Saint-Germain, Mbappe, who has become the all-time top scorer for the French capital club, is seeking a new adventure, which is likely to be in the ranks of Spanish Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old player scored 20 goals in the league this season, as Paris Saint-Germain seeks its third title in a row.
Paris Saint-Germain, which leads the standings by 11 points over its closest rival, will host its rival Nice tomorrow, Friday.
