Manchester City overtakes Bournemouth and tightens the noose on Liverpool

Manchester City won 1-0 over its host Bournemouth, on Saturday, with a goal scored by Phil Foden, reducing the defending champion's gap behind Liverpool, the leaders of the English Premier League, to one point.
Foden scored from close range in the 24th minute after a good effort from Erling Haaland.
Bournemouth seemed capable of equalizing in the second half, but Marcus Tavernier wasted two clear chances and Enis Unal's header missed the target at the fatal hour.
City won 59 points from 26 matches, one point behind Liverpool, which faces Chelsea in the League Cup final on Sunday.
City did not perform at its best level as it lacked flow, but it maintained its unbeaten record in the league for the 11th match after achieving a second successive victory with a score of 1-0 after defeating Brentford last Tuesday.
Foden once again highlighted his increasing importance in the team as he scored his ninth goal in the league this season.
City did not impose its dominance in the first minutes, but they took the lead when Haaland overcame the defensive control and fired a shot that was blocked by goalkeeper Neto, but the ball reached Foden, who calmly deposited it into the net.
Shortly before that, Ederson blocked an attempt from Milos Kerkes.
City were unable to score after the break and were surrounded by Bournemouth, supported by the fans, and Tavernier almost scored on two occasions, but the match ended with a score of 1-0.
