Liverpool achieved the 2023-2024 League Cup title for the tenth time in its history, with a fatal victory over Chelsea in the final of the competition.
The match brought together the two teams, on Sunday evening, at Wembley Stadium in a repeat of the 2021 final between the two teams, and Liverpool decided it with a fatal goal by its giant Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk in the fourth half of the match.
Liverpool was able to achieve victory over Chelsea with a score of 1-0, after a marathon match that extended into extra time, as is usual in the finals of both teams in recent years.
The original times of the match saw each team scoring a goal, but they were canceled after resorting to the mouse technique.
Chelsea's disallowed goal came from Raheem Sterling in the 33rd minute, while Liverpool's white goal came from Virgil van Dijk in the 60th minute, and both were disallowed due to offside.
With this new coronation, Liverpool raised its tally of titles to number 10, as it has won the most titles in this competition throughout its history.
Liverpool is now two titles away from its closest competitor on this list, Manchester City, which has 8 titles.
It is worth noting that the last time Liverpool won the title dates back to the 2021 edition, when it also won the final over Chelsea, but on penalties, after the match ended in a goalless draw.
This is also the eighth title for Liverpool under the leadership of German Jurgen Klopp with the team that he intends to leave at the end of the current season
