The club won the Egypt Cup for Al-Ahly, after defeating its traditional rival, Zamalek, 2-0, in the final match that brought them together at the “Awal Park” Stadium in Riyadh.
Imam Ashour scored the first goal in the 88th minute, and Mohamed Magdy Afsha the second in the 90th + 4th minute.
Ahlawi control from the beginning
Al-Ahly imposed its control over the course of the match, threatening Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad’s goal more than once, without succeeding in scoring.
Al-Ahly players demanded a penalty kick after obstructing Ashour in the Zamalek penalty area, but the Brazilian referee demanded that play continue.
The 12th minute witnessed the first dangerous opportunity for Zamalek, after Ahmed Sayed Zizo shot a weak ball, which Mustafa Schubert succeeded in converting into a corner kick.
Then Hussein Al-Shahat led a dangerous attack by Al-Ahly, and was obstructed inside the Zamalek penalty area and demanded a penalty kick, but the referee did not count anything.
In the second half, Shikabala participated in place of Zizou, who was injured at the end of the first half, and Zamalek pressed strongly through Nasser Mansi and Abdullah Al-Saeed.
The referee canceled a goal scored by Mahmoud Kahraba in the 53rd minute, due to offside.
In the 74th minute, Al-Ahly made three changes at once, with Omar Kamal replacing Percy Tau, Afsha replacing Amr Al-Soulia, and Marwan Attia replacing Karim Nedved.
Zamalek was close to scoring the first goal through Saif Al-Din Al-Jaziri in the 76th minute, but he surprisingly missed an opportunity.
In the 84th minute, Imam Ashour succeeded in scoring the first goal for Al-Ahly, after the referee awarded it after returning to the assistant referee’s video technology, “VAR.”
Mohamed Magdy Afsha added the second goal for Al-Ahly in the 90th + 4th minute, so the match ended with Al-Ahly winning 2-0, crowning them with the title.
