Behind the scenes of Xavi Hernandez's dismissal from coaching
Barcelona President Joan Laporta informed Xavi this afternoon that he will not continue as coach of the team next season.
Barcelona said in its statement: “We thank Xavi for his work as a coach, which adds to his unparalleled career as a player and team leader, and we wish him all the best in the future.”
According to Barcelona's statement, Xavi will officiate his last match as coach of the team next Sunday in Seville in the final round of the Spanish League.
German Hansi Flick is expected to coach the Catalan team on a one-season contract that can be extended for another season.
Xavi's dismissal comes one month after he was persuaded not to resign as coach of the team after the end of the current season.
What are the reasons for Xavi’s dismissal from Barcelona’s coaching position?
According to press reports, although Laporta was convinced of the necessity of Xavi continuing, and even worked to persuade him not to resign, things changed due to the statements of the Catalan club legend.
Xavi had stated that the team’s current roster would not be able to confront Real Madrid and the major European teams, due to the financial crisis that the Catalan club is suffering from and its inability to bring in strong deals.
In addition, press reports indicated that Xavi had entered into disputes with some players, such as Brazilian Vitor Roque and Portuguese Joao Felix, which meant a rift had occurred in the locker room.
