The Spanish League decided to implement the new law, approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), regarding talking to referees, similar to what happened in the European Nations Cup, “Euro 2024”, which is currently being held in Germany. UEFA decided to implement a new law, in the Euro 2024 tournament, to protect referees and keep them away from players’ pressure during matches. According to the new law, the captain of each team will be the only one who has the right to go to the referee to discuss it after announcing any error. If a player other than the “captain” goes to the referee, he will receive a yellow card. Spanish Radio Cadena Ser published a report in which it said that the new law applied in the Euro will be applied in the Spanish League for next season. She explained: “Only the captain has the right to speak with the referee, and no player will be allowed to speak with the referee.” Spanish clubs will be officially informed of the implementation of the new law within days. It is noteworthy that the law stipulates that only the team captain who carries the badge will have the right to speak with the referee during the course of the match. If the goalkeeper is the captain, a player from the team will be assigned to speak to the referee. The new law was announced by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) last March, and now it will undergo a trial period, before it is circulated and imposed in all competitions.
