The Romania national team qualified for the eighth final of the European Nations Cup (Euro 2024), after a draw with Slovakia (1-1), today, Wednesday, in the final round of the group stage.
Slovakia took the lead in the 24th minute with a header from Ondrej Duda, while Romania equalized in the 37th minute through Razvan Marin from a penalty kick.
With this tie, Romania took the lead with 4 points, the same score as Slovakia, which qualified in the best third place, while Belgium secured second place with the same balance of points, after a goalless draw with bottom-placed Ukraine, which exited the tournament despite also having 4 points.
This is the first time that Romania has qualified for the Euro elimination rounds in 24 years, specifically since the early 2000s edition in Belgium and the Netherlands, in which they reached the quarter-finals.
While the “Red Devils” reserved their place in the round of 16, for the third time in a row.
Third place went to Slovakia, also with four points, which is the second time it has reached the round of 16 in the tournament since its separation from the Czech Republic, after the 2016 tournament in France.
The Romanian national team will wait in the round of 16 for the third-placed team in the third or fourth group at the Allianz Arena on the second of next July.
As for Belgium, it will have a fiery match with France on the first day of next month in Dusseldorf, while Slovakia will wait to determine its opponent at the end of all group stage matches tonight.
