A new experiment conducted at Edith Cowan University in Australia showed that the group of vegetables that includes broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower has a significant impact on heart health, by lowering blood pressure.
The results concluded that eating 4 servings of vegetables daily for a period Two weeks led to a significant reduction in the upper blood pressure reading.
According to Study Finds, participants consumed about 300 grams (about 4 servings) of a mixture of broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and cabbage daily for two weeks, which belong to cruciferous vegetables.
Blood pressure results were compared with another group that consumed the same amount of root vegetables, such as potatoes, squash, sweet potatoes, and carrots.
After just two weeks of eating cruciferous vegetables, participants experienced an average reduction in 24-hour systolic blood pressure of 2.5 mm. mercury, compared to the control intervention.
This effect was most pronounced during daylight hours, with an average decrease of 3.6 mm Hg.
The researchers noted that this decrease could translate into a lower risk of major cardiovascular events, By approximately 5%.
Interestingly, the study also found that participants who ate cruciferous vegetables had lower levels of triglycerides in their blood, compared to those who ate root vegetables.
