A distinguished heritage and cultural event was held today, organized by the educational institutes in the governorate as part of the activities to celebrate Mahri Language Day, in the presence of the Dean of the Industrial Technical Institute, Eng. Hussein Ali bin Sobeih, the Dean of the Commercial Technical Institute, Eng. Amnit Al-Qumairi, and the Dean of the Vocational Institute, Eng. Noman Harf, and under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad. Ali Shalayan, Director General of the Office of Technical Education and Vocational Training, and with tangible efforts from Ms. Wadha Balhaf, who made a great effort in organizing, Mr. Muhammad Qayed Al-Qahtani, and the students of all departments. The event included the establishment of a heritage tent that reflects the ancient Mahri heritage, which contained various heritage exhibits representing the history of Mahra and its authentic civilization, and a display of traditional clothing that represents the Mahri identity, and popular dishes that embody the diversity of Mahri cooking.
The event also witnessed performances of popular dances in Mahra, such as the Baraa, Habut, and Badinah dances, in which the May 22 School flowers and the Boy Scouts team participated.
The event received a wide attendance from fans of the Mahri heritage, in addition to the educational figure in the Mahri community, Mr. Abdul Rahim Sadiq Al-Muqaddam. The activities aimed to highlight the Mahri language as one of the South Semitic languages with a unique character, which still carries an ancient civilization and history that deserves attention and preservation.
