A new study conducted by a research team from the University of Coimbra in Portugal revealed amazing health benefits of drinking coffee, as the results showed that drinking three cups of coffee a day may increase your life expectancy by 1.84 years.
The study, which was published on the ScienceAlert website, included an analysis of 85 previous studies that included participants from different regions around the world, such as Europe, the Americas, Australia and Asia. The study targeted the relationship between coffee consumption, death rates, and public health indicators.
According to the researchers, the results showed that moderate and continuous consumption of coffee is associated with an increase in the period of health, which is the time a person spends without developing serious diseases. Neuroscientist Rodrigo Cunha, one of the study participants, indicated that coffee may help alleviate biological mechanisms that slow down with age, reducing the risk of developing age-related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and dementia.
The results of the study showed that coffee consumption is linked to improving several health functions, including the body’s muscles, heart, immune system, as well as mental functions. The study also confirmed that coffee may contribute to reducing the incidence of common diseases among the elderly, such as heart disease, stroke, some types of cancer, and physical weakness.
Although the study relied on self-reports of coffee consumption and was conducted with support from the Institute for Scientific Coffee Information, which is funded by major coffee producers, the findings are in line with much previous research suggesting the health benefits of drinking Coffee.
Cunha explained, “With the increasing number of elderly people around the world, it has become necessary to research nutritional interventions that contribute to improving the quality of life and increasing lifespan.”
