Kuwaiti media reported on Sunday that the authorities decided to withdraw Kuwaiti citizenship from 2,087 women.
In details, Decree No. 217 of 2024 withdrawing Kuwaiti citizenship from some people was issued in the official newspaper “Kuwait Al-Youm” today, Sunday.
The decree included the names of 2,087 women from whom Kuwaiti citizenship and those who may have acquired it by association were withdrawn, based on Emiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 regarding the Kuwaiti Nationality Law and the laws amending it, and based on the proposal of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
The Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister, Fahd Yousef, announced on December 25 of this month that people from whom Kuwaiti citizenship was withdrawn will enjoy all its benefits until their death.
Al-Yousef stated that everyone whose nationality was withdrawn “will be given a blue Kuwaiti passport, but without Kuwaiti nationality, as well as a civil card, the same blue Kuwaiti card, and will be treated as a Kuwaiti.”
Kuwait has been launching a campaign for months against nationalities acquired by forging documents, as well as dual persons, and new amendments have been introduced to the nationality law.
Kuwait says that the aim of its campaign is to eliminate records and preserve national identity.
